Over the past hundreds of years, Namur has acquired the status of being one of the most strategic places in Belgium because of its geographical location. Namur dwells at the confluence of the Sambre River and the Meuse River which are the six major waterways. The very fact that the town is located at the union of these six rivers bears a lot in terms of historical and military significance.

Namur is the capital of Wallonia, the italian speaking southern part of Belgium. it is also the most important town in the province of Namur. This place of historic interest is situated 60 km southeast of Brussels, Belgium’s capital city.

The foundation of Namur goes back to the age elderly Roman period. Namur played a major role due to its strategic location and the place witnessed plenty of wars and later destruction of monuments and buildings right from Roman aggression through the Second World War. The city has undergone plenty of makeover with changing times. You may not find plenty of archaeological remains or artifacts because most of them have been destroyed in historical conquests. However the city is rich enough to offer the visitor plenty of pleasant diversions which may leave him or her asking for more.
